SISSONVILLE — Charleston pro Will Evans holds a two-stroke lead on the field following Thursday’s second round of the 91st West Virginia Open at Edgewood Country Club.

In all, 22 golfers are in the red heading into today’s final round as the top 60 players and ties made the cut for the final 18 holes.

West Virginia University golfer Todd Duncan followed his 67 on Wednesday with a 65 on Thursday to sit at 10-under par. Evans, who shot 9-under on day one, managed to finish with a 68 on Thursday to sit at 12-under, which included making an albatross on the par-5, 16th.

Huntington’s Cam Roam is three strokes off the pace and is at 9-under after rounds of 68 and 65.

Parkersburg pro Kenny Hess was at 8-under heading into his final hole on Thursday, but made bogey and is at 7-under following rounds of 68 and 67. Hess, who is alone in fourth, is seeking his second career W.Va. Open title.

“Really solid two days of golf,” Hess admitted. “Finally got the putter rolling a little bit. I have my brother on the bag and we are starting to get a good feel of the course and the greens.

“If I get off the tee well tomorrow I’ll have a good chance to make a run. Will is obviously playing well and he’s going to be tough. Just have to tee it up and see what happens.”

Milton’s Noah Mullens and Hurricane’s Christian Brand are tied for fifth at 6-under.

Seven strokes back of Evans are a quartet of players tied for seventh – Harpers Ferry pro David Bradshaw, St. Clairsville pro Thadd Obecny II as well as Hurricane’s Mitch Hoffman and Kermit’s Davey Jude.

Ravenswood pro Alex Easthom is the next closest area golfer in contention. The former West Liberty University standout followed his 67 with a 2-over par 73 and is tied for 14th.

Also making the cut were Parkersburg’s Ben Kunselman (T43rd, +5) and Ben Palmer (T48th, +6), Spencer pro Cole Moore (T48th, +6) as well as Gilmer County and East Carolina University graduate Philip Reale, who is also tied for 48th after carding back-to-back rounds of 74.

Mason pro Ty Roush, Williamstown’s Jared Bryant and Vincent’s Brandon Fivecoait missed the cut by one stroke.

Also coming up short of making the cut were Parkersburg’s Brett Fluharty (+13), Ravenswood’s Kelan Lucas (+14), Vienna’s Chuck Henderson (+15), Parkersburg’s Cameron Fallon (+15), Mason’s Grant Roush (+15), Vincent’s Mark Warden (+17), Ripley’s David Haynes (+18) and Parkersburg’s Joseph Koreski (+26).
