Williamstown 51, Tyler Consolidated 6
WILLIAMSTOWN -- Max Molessa scored five rushing touchdowns and passed for another to lead Williamstown to a dominating 51-6 win over visiting Tyler Consolidated in a battle of top 10 Class A programs.
No. 1 ranked Williamstown, which improved to 8-0, saw Molessa score on runs of 52 and 10 yards in the opening quarter to build a quick 14-0 lead.
The No. 6 ranked Silver Knights, who fell to 7-1, cut it to 14-6 on Sean Winfrey's 4-yard TD run later in the quarter, but it was all Yellowjackets from there.
Molessa scored two more times in the second period on runs of 4 and 10 yards to make it 30-6 at halftime.
The WHS signal-caller scored again from 29 yards out to open the second half.
Someone else finally got in on the scoring action with 6:13 left in the third when Lynken Joy scored on a 1-yard carry. The TD was set up by Molessa's 35-yard pass to Cooper Martin.
Capping the scoring was Louis Goodnow, who hauled in a 46-yard strike from Molessa.
Molessa finished with 202 yards on 21 carries, while Williamstown's defense held Winfrey to 44 yards on 14 attempts. The Yellowjackets outgained the Silver Knights 507-166.
Williamstown remains at home next week for a showdown with No. 14 Doddridge while Tyler pays a visit to No. 9 St. Marys.
Shady Spring 33, Ripley 18
SHADY SPRING -- Shady Spring scored 20 points in the fourth quarter to pull away for a 33-18 win over visiting Ripley Friday night.
The Vikings (1-8) trailed just 13-12 to start the final period, but Shady Spring's Gavin Davis, who rushed for 315 yards on 36 carries, scored three touchdowns over the final 12 minutes to allow the hosts to secure the victory.
Davis finished with all five of the SSHS touchdowns in the game.
Ripley scored first thanks to Tyson Pritt's 54-yard touchdown pass to Noah Casto in the opening period. Casto also had a 1-yard TD run in the second period to give Ripley a 12-7 halftime advantage.
Davis rushed for a 51-yard score in the third to set up the final stanza.
Casto carried 18 times for 107 yards and also caught four balls for 108 yards. Chris Jenkins, who had a 4-yard TD run in the fourth to cut the Vikings' deficit to 27-18.
South Harrison 30, Calhoun 8
MT. ZION -- Lucas Rush carried 21 times for 132 yards and scored twice while South Harrison's defense had a pair of pick-sixes as the visiting Hawks bested Calhoun County 30-8 Friday night.
Calhoun trailed 16-0 before Tyler Nelson's 3-yard touchdown run with 3:10 left in the half, combined with Owen Taylor's two-point pass to Jayton Gibson, cut it to 16-8 at halftime.
South Harrison, though, scored 14 third-quarter points to put the game away.
The Hawks won despite not completing a pass. They carried 45 times for 244 yards as a team, with Zane Harlow adding 66 yards on nine totes to Rush's output.
Calhoun was led offensively by Taylor, who carried 10 times for 82 yards.
St. Marys 47, Ritchie 7
ELLENBORO -- St. Marys' defense had four interceptions Friday night en route to a 47-7 win over host Ritchie County.
Shane Moran had two picks for the Blue Devils (7-1) while Sam Miller and Josiah DeMoss had one apiece. For DeMoss, it was his sixth pick of the season.
Offensively, Logan Eddy had touchdown runs of 88 and 70 yards as he finished with 173 yards on just seven carries. Ashton Boron added 142 yards and a touchdown on 10 rushes. He also had a punt return that he took to the house.
Ryan Kent threw a pair of touchdown passes to Moran, DeMoss had an 83-yard kick return for a touchdown to open the second half. The scoring all began, however, with Jake Delancey's 28-yard scoring scamper in the first quarter.
Ritchie got on the board in the fourth quarter on Josiah Hamilton's 30-yard touchdown run. Hamilton led the Rebels' ground attack with 64 yards on 16 attempts.
River 42, Frontier 16
NEW MATAMORAS -- Frontier scored 16 unanswered points to close out Friday's game against River, but ultimately fell 42-16 in its final game of the season.
River, which improved to 7-2, saw quarterback Kabel Isaly complete 11 out of 16 passes for 305 yards and three touchdowns -- 12 yards to Ben Bowers, 71 yards to Maddox Mozena and 70 yards to Colton Cisar.
The Pilots also scored on a 12-yard run by Kaden Johnson and a 38-yard run by Isaly.
Johnson led River with 80 yards on 10 carries. Bowers was the leading receiver with 118 yards on six receptions.
Frontier got on the board on Ethan Snyder's 3-yard run to open the fourth quarter. True King completed the two-point pass to Noah Ruble. With 11 seconds left in the game, King threw a 31-yard touchdown pass to Caleb Kirkpatrick. Senior lineman Ryley Dunn ran in the two-pointer to make it 42-16.
Doddridge 20, East Hardy 10
WEST UNION -- No. 14 Doddridge County earned a pivotal win over No. 8 East Hardy, 20-10, Friday night.
The Bulldogs (6-2) got a pick-six from Brycen Eidel in the first quarter and then an 8-yard touchdown pass from Brysen Dixon to Seth Cass in the second quarter to take a 13-0 lead into halftime.
East Hardy (5-3) scored 10 straight points in the third -- Damien Dellinger had an 18-yard touchdown run followed by Levi Price's 39-yard field goal -- to cut it to 13-10 headed into the fourth.
With 4:27 left on the clock, Doddridge iced the game on Talyn Snyder's 3-yard touchdown run to secure the victory.
There wasn't a ton of offense in this game as DCHS outgained East Hardy, 170-78. The Bulldogs also won the turnover battle, 2-1.
Doddridge faces its biggest test of the season next Friday when it hits the road to face unbeaten Williamstown.
