Logan 17, Marietta 0
LOGAN, Ohio -- After a big push on its opening drive resulted in no points, the Marietta offense experienced its share of difficulties in a 17-0 loss on Logan's homecoming Friday night.
The Tigers (3-4) appeared to build momentum at the outset with 13 straight running plays on its first offensive series which resulted in a red zone opportunity. The drive, which took more than 6 1/2 minutes off the clock, ended on a missed field goal from 31 yards.
Logan (2-5) went three-and-out on the ensuing drive, giving Marietta ideal field position near midfield. However, on fourth-and-1 the Tigers opted to keep the offense on the field but could not convert yet another run play into a first down.
The Chieftains shifted the momentum on the following drive which resulted in a 35-yard field goal by Kallen Wilson in the early stages of the second quarter.
The Tigers did not record a first down in their next three possessions, including a drive which started near midfield when Skiler Adams recovered a fumbled caused by teammate Seth Britton.
Logan struck one more time with nearly five minutes remaining before halftime on a 61-yard touchdown run by Chris Gompf.
Marietta's offense never got on track even with back-ups Lucas Miller and Seth Britton filling in for starter Drew Warden at quarterback.
Logan's version of the wing-T gave the Tigers fits throughout. Early in the fourth quarter, Morgan's 4-yard run set up a 1-yard touchdown plunge by the Chieftain quarterback and a 17-0 lead.
