SOUTH CHARLESTON -- In a mere eight plays from scrimmage, Parkersburg scored 35 first-quarter points and defeated South Charleston 63-0 to improve to 3-0 for the season.
PHS quarterback David Parsons rushed for a 37-yard TD on the Big Reds' first play from scrimmage then threw a pair of touchdown passes, one for 45 yards to Anthony Ice and a 10-yarder to Matthew Stalnaker, to complete the first-quarter barrage.
South Charleston, which started sophomore quarterback Kayden Hackman in place of their regular starting signal-caller who was sidelined because of concussion protocol, went three-and-out on its first three series of the game then fumbled on its fourth possession for a scoop-and-score of 35 yards by Stalnaker to put the Big Reds in front 28-0 with 2:58 still remaining in the period.
Running back Jakel Shelton accounted for a fifth Big Red TD on a two-yard dive ealier in the period.
As a defensive unit in those first 12 minutes, PHS allowed just one first down and limited the Big Blacks to 15 yards of total offense on 18 plays from scrimmage.
Fort Frye 42, Bishop Tonnos 24
BEVERLY -- Fort Frye erased a three-point deficit in the third quarter and scored the final three touchdowns of the game to defeat Canadian-based Bishop Tonnos, 42-24, on Friday night.
The 4-0 Cadets trailed 10-7 at halftime as Bishop Tonnos esbtablished the lead on a Francesco Romano 43-yard field goal and Elliot Blake's 3-yard TD reception from quarterback Ryan Begadon. Begadon finished the game with 212 yards passing.
The two schools traded touchdowns coming out of the gate inthe second half with Bishop Tonnos nursing a 24-21 lead.
The Cadets' ground game had its way throughout the game and answered with a Ross Schultheis 18-yard TD run followed by a pair of rushing TDs from Bryndan Riddle in the fourth quarter.
Clayton Miller, who led Fort Frye with 221 yards on the ground, added a 56-yard TD run in the third period. The Cadets nearly had three backs surpass the century mark with Riddle's 138 yards and another 85 from Schultheis.
The two schools combined fell 25 yards short of combining for 1,000 yards of total offense.
Ritchie County 34, South Harrison 32
LOST CREEK -- Lucas Rush scored three first-half touchdowns and the converted the two-point conversion each time to take a 24-6 lead nto halftime, but Ritchie County (1-2) rebounded in a major way with 28 points in the second half.
Ritchie County trailed 32-12 in the fourth quarter before scoring three touchdowns, including the gamewinner on Turner Shriver's 28-yard TD completion to Rhett Johnson.
Shriver finished the game completing 12-of-17 passes for 241 yards and three TDs. Bodhi Utter (4-95), Johnson (4-62) and Hodges (2-45) each caught a TD pass.
Rush, who gained 117 yards by halftime, scored on the South Harrison's first two drives of the game. Sandwiched in between the two Hawk scores was Ritchie County producing its only scoring drive before the break. Shriver hooked up with receiver Isaac Hodges for a 14-yard TD reception to cut the gap to 8-6 in the first quarter.
However, on the touchdown celebration, the Rebels were penalized for two unsportsmanlike penalties which resulted in a 16-yard spot foul for the two-point conversion, which was stopped by the Hawks.
Rush finished with 228 yards on 26 carries and four TDs.
Waterford 47, Belpre 6
PARKERSBURG -- Waterford limited Belpre to 27 yards of total offense and cruised to a 47-6 win Friday at Stadium Field.
The Wildcats got touchdown runs from Colten Jones, Dylan Taylor and Hayden Jones, while Zavier Heiss threw a pair of touchdown passes to Max Roberts and Caden McDougle.
Wateford (3-1) also scored on a fumble return by Jase Miller and a 52-yard punt return by Colten Jones.
Taylor finished with 90 yards on the ground while Hayden Jones added 86. Heiss was 7 for 10 passing for 104 yards.
No individual stats or scoring information was available for Belpre (0-4), but the Golden Eagles did win the turnover battle 2-1.
Lincoln County 26, Ripley 7
HAMLIN -- Lincoln County quarterback Lucas Johaim threw for 177 yards and two touchdowns, including one to himself, as Lincoln County picked up its first win of the season with a 26-7 win over Ripley.
Johaim also rushed for two touchdowns as Lincoln County built a 13-0 lead by halftime.
Trailing 20-7, Ripley finally broke through on a 42-yard TD run by Tyson Pritt. Pritt led the Vikings (0-3) with 58 yards on eight carries.
Lincoln County's offense finished with 309 yards compared to 105 for Ripley.
Doddridge County 48, Gilmer County 8
WEST UNION -- Doddridge County jumped out to a 21-0 lead and never looked back in Friday's 48-8 win over visiting Gilmer County.
Gilmer's Caleb Hall had an 82-yard touchdown run at the 2:58 mark of the first quarter to get the Titans within 21-8, but the Bulldogs answered with 27 straight points to close out the game.
Kendall Huffman had two touchdowns runs while Brandon Hileman and Brandon Davis each had one. Brysen Dixon threw a pair of touchdown passes, one each to Jared Trent and Landon Thomas, while Seth Cass had a 74-yard kick return for a TD to round Doddridge's scoring.
Hall led all rushers for the Titans with 104 yards on 17 carries, but that was pretty much the bulk of Gilmer's offense.
Doddridge had a more balanced attack with Cass going for 92 yards on 10 carries, Davis netting 59 yards on four rushes and Huffman finishing with 37 yards on six totes. In the passing game, Divson was 8 for 12 for 173 yards with Thomas catching two balls for 79 yards to lead all receivers.
Tyler Consolidated 49, Calhoun County 7
KIDWELL -- Sean Winfrey's 96-yard kickoff return to pen the game set the tone as Tyler Consolidated defeated Calhoun County, 49-7, on Friday night.
Tyler Consolidated improves to 2-0, while Calhoun County drops to 0-3.
Winfrey finished the game with 121 yards rushing on 12 carries and finished with four touchdowns for the game. In the receiving department Gideon Winfrey caught three passes for 118 yards.
The Silver Knights scored 49 unaswered points before Calhoun County broke through for a touchdown in the fourth quarter on a 20-yard completion from Owen Taylor to Logan Tingler.
Sheridan 29, Morgan 13
THORNVILLE -- Kole Searl caught 14 passes for 141 yards and Logan Niceswanger threw for 308 yards, but the Morgan Raiders couldn't keep up with Sheridan as the Generals claimed a 29-13 home victory Friday.
Niceswanger completed 27 of 38 pass attempts, including a 3-yard touchdown to Adam Cooper and a 24-yard TD to Hayden Bankes. He was intercepted once.
The Raiders (2-2) couldn't get anything going on the ground and had trouble stopping the Generals' offense.
