ST. MARYS -- Winfield's boys dominated the field here Saturday at the annual Autumn Classic, while the Williamstown girls edged Little Kanawha Conference rival Doddridge County, 58-64.
Williamstown junior Alyssa Sauro covered the course in 17 minutes and 18 seconds to top John Marshall freshman Zoe Zervos' 18:17 effort.
Oak Glen senior Hannah Kliner (18:50), Huntington freshman Laurel Johnson (18:55) and Doddridge County junior Katie Cottrill (18:56) comprised the top five.
The Yellowjackets also received scoring runs from junior Ava Lightfritz (9th, 19:46.19), freshman Cassie Sites (11th, 19:49) along with the junior duo of Lexi Wynn (19th, 20:45) and Sydney Anderson (20th, 20:52).
Joining Cottrill in the top 30 for the Bulldogs were senior Destiny Berryman (8th, 19:36), junior Bailey Holden (15th, 20:23), sophomore Kaitlyn Key (17th, 20:31) and 11th-grader Cassidy Cumberledge (22nd, 21:02).
The host Blue Devils were paced by a 19 minute and 29 second showing from freshman Anna Bennett, which was good for seventh place behind Ripley's Ellie Hosaflook, who ran a 19:01.
Also scoring for St. Marys were seniors Virginia Haddox (10th, 19:46.54) and Jaela Davis (31st, 21:25) as well as ninth-grader Maddie Smith (38th, 21:43) and junior Natalie Bartrug (41st, 21:49).
Other area girls who cracked the top 30 were Braxton County's Laura Cain (13th, 20:10), Ritchie County's Bentlee and Chesnee Williams (24th/25th, 21:09/21:16) and South Harrison's Dakota James (28th, 21:21).
Winfield amassed just 25 points to easily outpace runner-up Wheeling Park (92) and third-place Williamstown (121).
The top local efforts came from Yellowjacket junior Julian Johnson (9th, 16:23) and Magnolia's Landen Davis (10th, 16:25).
Brayden Marshall crossed in 14 minutes and 56 seconds to take the title ahead of fellow General senior classmate Justin Lipscomb's 15:39.
Wheeling Park senior Seth Franke was third with a 15:51, General senior Landon Brumfield was fourth with a 15:56 and Wheeling Central senior Aidan Scott was three seconds off his pace in fifth.
Juniors Frank Conner (14th, 16:36) and William Coiner (24th, 17:19) managed top 30 showings for Williamstown, which had freshmen Chase Pickering (42nd, 18:00) and Zander Boyce (57th, 18:24) also factor in the scoring.
Champion Winfield's other top showings came from sophomore Lincoln Haynes (8th, 16:22) and freshman Trace Marshall (11th, 16:25).
Area runners who made the top 30 included Tyler Consolidated sophomore Amos Kimble (15th, 16:43), St. Marys sophomore Max Dauch (16th, 16:48), TCHS ninth-grader Travis Moore (23rd, 17:17) and Ritchie County junior Dylan Malolepszy (26th, 17:22).
