VINCENT -- Jackson's last chance with a late throw-in during the 80th minute of action to set up a potential game-winning goal was headed out of danger by Warren senior Patrick McCarthy as the Warriors settled for a 1-1 tie here Wednesday night.
Both squads had a pair of shots on goal in the first half with each team finding the back of the net.
Warren sophomore Sam Perdue put the 0-1-1 hosts, who return to action at 1 p.m. Saturday when Gallia Academy invades, on the board first when he struck in the 21st minute. Warrior Ezekiel Reeder had crossed a ball that Perdue fired toward keeper Isaac Coleman, but he made the save. However, Coleman was unable to handle the ball and it bounced right back toward Perdue, who booted it inside the left post.
The Warriors of head coach Jon Hurley watched a run by Bryar Gilliland get thwarted in the 26th minute by Jackson's Coen Davis. Warren's Jacob Brown had a chance in the 27th minute, but his attempt to hit the upper 90 just missed.
Jackson, which opened its season Wednesday for head coach Lee Lord, had an open look in the middle of the field in the 34th minute from Cooper Moore, but his shot sailed high above Warrior keeper Hayden Wells.
Prior to the break, Conner Ball made a run and passed it into the corner for Landon Dailey. The senior proceeded to send a cross into the box, which the Warriors were unable to clear. That led to Garrett Carper being in the right place at the right time as he beat Wells to square the match 19 ticks into the 39th minute.
"Our midfield didn't get back in time and they had some good speed," coach Hurley said of the goal.
"We were equal. It was two equal teams battling out there and we had a mental letdown just like they had a mental letdown.
"You can't have that in a close game. We fought hard. I think the boys did well, but it's not well enough to get the win. Gallia is a tough team and they've really stepped up their game the last few years."
Jackson had around a 30-yard direct kick early in the second half following a Warrior handball, but Mikey Parana's shot went wide.
Warren freshman Hudson Elzey also had a look in the 66th minute, but couldn't put it on frame.
"We just have to put the work in and put a full 80 minutes together," admitted Hurley, whose team avoided potential disaster in the 47th minute when a cross from Ball was deflected off the foot of Ayden Cornell, but Wells was able to grab it.
"We can't have these little breakdowns. We have enough subs we can get these guys a breather. The last 10 minutes the intensity was so high. If we could've carried that the whole game, that's what we are looking for is to put that game together for 80 minutes."
