Patrick Copen leads Marshall past W. Kentucky

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. -- Former Parkersburg Catholic standout Patrick Copen snapped a winless drought on the mound for Marshall University in a major way during Saturday's 8-1 win over Western Kentucky.

Against the Hilltoppers, Copen strick out the side in the bottom of the third inning and worked out of a jam in the fourth inning After WKU put two runners on base with one out. Copen snuffed the rally with a pair of strikeouts.

The sophomore right-hander pitched shutout ball for six innings, struck out eight and allowed just one hit while walking three.

Copen opened the season with two wins in his first three decisions then ran into a snag with six straight appearances without a win.

In 46 innings of worked, he has allowed just 33 hits and struck out 50. Copen owns a 2-2 record with a 4.70 earned-run average.
