ATLANTA -- The Georgia Tech baseball team was picked Thursday to win the ACC's Coastal Division by the conference's coaches.
Tech, coached by Danny Hall, received eight first-place votes and 91 points overall in the poll. The Yellow Jackets have won the Coastal Division two seasons in a row (2019 and 2021; season canceled in 2020) and can become only the fourth ACC team ever to win three straight division titles. The conference split into two divisions in 2006.
Hall was born in Coolville, Ohio, and went to Federal Hocking High School, where he played baseball for his father, Danny Sr. His mother, Pat, worked at the school for years as the business education instructor.
Hall was drafted by the Oakland Athletics out of high school but elected to play collegiately for Miami (Ohio). After graduating, he joined the Red Hawks as an assistant. From 1980-87, Hall was an assistant for Michigan before beginning his head coaching career at Kent State in 1988.
In 1994, he took over the head coaching duties at Georgia Tech, where he's been ever since.
All-time, Hall is 1,312-698-1 as a collegiate head coach, with 1,104 of those wins coming with the Yellow Jackets.
He's the all-time winningest coach in Georgia Tech history, the second winningest active head coach in college baseball, and the third all-time winningest head coach in Division I baseball.
Hall is a four-time ACC Coach of the Year, two-time MAC Coach of the Year, and in 1997 was named the National Coach of the Year by Sporting News. The Yellow Jackets have made three College World Series appearances under Hall's guidance.
He begins his 35th season officially on Feb. 18 when Wright State visits Georgia Tech.
