High School Boys

Parkersburg South 84, Spring Valley 62

HUNTINGTON -- Cyrus Traugh connected on five 3-pointers and scored a game-high 27 points as Parkersburg South defeated Spring Valley 84-62.

The Patriots (5-1) finished with a total of 11 makes from beyond the arc, including another three from Jackson Smith, who scored 12 points and was one of three South players to score in double figures. Teammate Ashton Mooney fiulled up the his stat line with 19 points, seven assists and three steals.

South travels to Saturday's Harvest Prep New Year's Bash to play Columbus South. Game time is set for 2 p.m.

Keyan Grayson led Spring Valley (1-3) with 16 points.

St. Marys 54, Magnolia 37

NEW MARTINSVILLE -- For the second game in the span of three days, St. Marys turned in quite the impressive victory after winning at Magnolia, 54-37.

The Blue Devils bolted out to a 29-14 halftime lead and secured its sixth win without a defeat.

St. Marys senior Grant Barnhart cored a game-high 28 points and tied teammate Luke Powell with a team-high nine rebounds. The Blue Devils also received 11 points from Brandon Lawhon and another 10 from Powell.

Hayden Pyles led Magnolia (1-3) with 13 points, while Caden Johnson and Trevor Williamstown added 13 and 10 points, respectively.

Gilmer County 83, Richwood 81 (OT)

RICHWOOD -- Garrett Butler's bucket with two seconds remaining in overtime lifted Gilmer County past Richwood, 83-81.

Gilmer trailed 55-36 with one quarter remaining then blindsided Richwood for 34 fourth-quarter points and force the extra four-minute session.

Josh Lipscomb led the Titans (2-3) with 34 points, while Butler finished with 15 points.

Frontier 70, Toronto 61

TORONTO, Ohio -- Tice Curtis scored a game-high 24 points as Frontier closed out the 2021 portion of its season with a 70-61 win at Toronto.

Frontier (5-3) exploded for 29 points in the second quarter while taking a 44-35 lead into intermission.

Both Brendan Buck and Nathan Bowersock scored 13 points to complement Curtis' effort for the Cougars.

Ravenswood 81, Southern 59

SALINE, Ohio -- Matthew Carte flirted with a triple-double as Ravenswood rolled past Southern for an 81-59 road victory.

Carter scored a game-high 22 points to with 10 rebounds and seven assists as the Red Devils improved to 6-1.

A total of three Ravenswoof players scored in double figures as Shawn Banks tossed in 15 points and Beau Bennett added another 13 points.

For Southern (4-6, Cruz Brinager knocked down three 3-pointers and led the Tornadoes with 19 points. Teammate Derek Griffith finished with 17 points.

Roane County 42, Doddridge County 33

SPENCER -- Lane Epling was pretty a lone wolf where scoring was involved as Roane County defeated Doddridge County, 42-33.

Epling connected on seven 3-pointers and scored a game-high 25 points for the 4-2 Raiders. Teammate Gary Harper chipped in eight points.

For Doddridge County, Isaac Ezell finished with 11 points and was the lone Bulldog to score more than five points.

High School Girls

Ripley 54, Shady Spring 52 (OT)

RIPLEY -- McKennan Hall's shot from the left block with 2.2 seconds remaining in overtime proved to be the game-winner as Ripley defeated Shady Spring 54-52.

Three players scored in double figures for Ripley (7-2), including Hall with a team-high 16 points. Erin Ryan added 15 points for the Vikings, while Soffie Nichols pitched in another 10 points.
