TWINSBURG, Ohio -- Marietta College senior Drake Neuberger was named the Ohio Athletic Conference Football Defensive Player of the Week Monday by the league office. This is the third weekly award in Neuberger's career.
Neuberger helped lead the Pioneers to a 37-7 road win over Capital University. The victory was Marietta's fifth straight over Capital and improved the Pioneers to 2-1 overall and 2-0 in the OAC.
Neuberger led the Pioneer defense with 12 total tackles, five solo and seven assisted, and forced one fumble. He recorded 4.0 tackles for a loss including 3.0 sacks. Neuberger currently leads the OAC with 5.0 total sacks this fall and ranks second in NCAA Division III averaging 1.67 sacks per game.
The Pioneer defense limited Capital to 54 yards rushing and 10 total first downs in the game. In the last 11 quarters of action, Marietta's defense has allowed only seven points.
For the season, Neuberger leads Marietta with 22 total tackles, 11 solo and 11 assisted. He is also tops on the team with 7.0 tackles for a loss and 5.0 sacks. In addition, Neuberger has forced a pair of fumbles and recovered one other.
