Scott Cozzens resigns as Parkersburg High girls basketball coach

PARKERSBURG – The Parkersburg High School girls basketball team is in the market for a new head coach.

Scott Cozzens announced his resignation effective immediately Thursday morning in a phone call with the Parkersburg News and Sentinel.

Cozzens helped guide the Big Reds through one of the most decorated periods in program history. During his time on the sideline, the group advanced to the Class AAA regional tournament four straight years (2018-21), the state tournament three years in a row (2018-2020) and won back-to-back state championships in ’18 and ’19.

Cozzens also coached the 2019 Mary Ostrowski Award winner (given annually to the top girls basketball player in the state of West Virginia) Shay-Lee Kirby. She along with Madi Mace went on to play Division I basketball at Austin Peay and Ohio University, respectively.

Joining their former teammates at the college level were Aleea Crites, Bre Wilson, Maddie Leggett, and Maggie Richards.
