University 59
MORGANTOWN -- Parkersburg South received four double-digit scoring efforts in a 65-59 upset of 2018 Class AAA state runner-up University Tuesday night on the road.
Makenna Winans (19), Erin Williams (12), Hannah Wingrove (11) and Rylee Harner (13) all hit triples, along with Skylar Bosley in the 65-59 victory.
University won only one quarter, the first one. South took a five-point halftime lead then outscored the Hawks 26-13 in the third period. University tried to pull even by outscoring their visitors 20-8 in the fourth, but it was too little, too late.
Ashten Boggs led the Hawks in scoring with 23 points. Abbie Coen added 18 markers.
Williamstown 54,
Ritchie County 42
ELLENBORO -- Visiting Williamstown received 15 points from Sophie Folwell and 12 points from Jayla Wiseman, got off to a fast start in the opening period, and took down Ritchie County, 54-42, Tuesday night on the road.
Fred Sauro's Yellowjackets enjoyed a comfortable margin after the first eight minutes. They outscored the Rebels 16-7. Ritchie matched its visitors in the second period, but could pull no closer.
Rebekah Ruppert scored 23 points in the loss. Ashley Davis added a pair of 3s, in her eight points.
Shenandoah 51,
Wood County
Christian 21
WILLIAMSTOWN -- Only scoring five points in the second half and turning the ball over 40 times doomed the Wood County Christian Wildcats, as the visiting Shenandoah Zeps came away with the 51-21 victory on Tuesday night.
Stella Dunn was the leading point-getter for the Wildcats with eight, as Katie Michael had five points, six rebounds, and three blocks. Sidney Strause had two points and grabbed a team-high nine rebounds.
Shenandoah's Regan Flood was the games leading scorer with 22 points.
BOYS BASKETBALL
Williamstown 90,
Tyler Consolidated 51
KIDWELL -- Williamstown comfortably moved its record to 8-0 after Tuesday night's road win at Tyler Consolidated.
Scott Sauro's Yellowjackets raced out to a 52-20 mid-game lead en route to the 90-51 victory. The visitors went on to outscore the Silver Knights 38-21 in the final two stanzas.
Sam Cremeans' 20 markers led the visitors. Eli Inman also chipped in 16 points.
Silver Knight Mark Rucker led all scorers with 22 points.
Ripley 71, Nitro 50
NITRO -- Ty Johnson poured in 29 points, Tobias Scholl added 20 more, and Ripley ran away from Nitro in the second half for a 71-50 victory.
After trailing the Wildcats by two, 24-22, at halftime, the Vikings outscored their hosts 49-26 in the last 16 minutes.
Kolton Painter led Nitro in scoring with 24 points.
He was part of an off-shooting night. The Wildcats hit just 19 of 62 shots from the field, while Painter connected on just 9 of his 23 shot attempts.
Wirt County 45,
Calhoun County 35
ELIZABETH -- The Wirt County Tigers took advantage of poor shooting by the visiting Calhoun County Red Devils, only scoring four points in the third.
The Tigers outscored the Red Devils in the second half 28-14 for the 45-35 victory Tuesday night.
Justin Windland and Hunter Hickman both were the leading scorers for the Tigers with a baker's dozen each. Kyler Carper had nine points and Dylan Lowe had eight markers, six coming from deep.
Calhoun County's Adam Parsons had a game-high of 17 points and was followed by Nick Moore's seven and Chase Blair's six points on the night.
The Red Devils hada 21-17 lead after playing two quarters but struggled coming out of the locker room to only score 14 total points.
Roane County 88,
Doddridge County 50
SPENCER -- Brayden Miller put up a triple-double to lead Roane County past Doddridge County 88-50 Tuesday.
Miller finished with 33 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists to help the Raiders improve to 6-1. Issac Ryan added 16 points while Blake Murray chipped in 10. Lee Keaton added eight points and nine boards.
Doddridge was led by Holden Hayes' 21 markers.
St. Marys 75, Ravenswood 61
ST. MARYS --Led by Richard Dornon's game-high of 16 points, St. Marys had an additional four scorers reach double-digits in points in the 75-61 win against Ravenswood on Tuesday night.
Along with Dornon and his game-high of 13 rebounds, the Blue Devils got their scoring from Grant Barnhart (14), Peyton Auxier (13), Carson Miller (13) and William Steele rounding out with 11 markers to give St. Marys its fifth win on the season.
The Red Devils were paced by Shawn Banks' team-high of 15 points, five steals and two assists. Matthew Carte finished with 13 and Devin Raines and Trey Mandrake each had 10 markers.
Belpre 66, Southern 63
RACINE --The visiting Golden Eagles needed every one of their 25 first-quarter points Tuesday night at Southern High School.
Their hosts put the clamps on defense in the second quarter, but couldn't complete the comeback in a 66-63 loss to Belpre.
Four Belpre players scored in double figures led by Logan Adams' 17 points. Makiah Merritt and Connor Baker each chipped in 14 for the visiting team.
Shenandoah 65,
Wood County
Christian 28
WILLIAMSTOWN -- Christian Duniver had a game-high 23 points as visiting Shenandoah rolled past Wood County Christian here Tuesday, 65-28.
The Zeps (8-3) also got double figure scoring efforts from Max McVicker (11) and Colby Farmer (10).
WCC (3-11) was paced by Garrett Napier's 18-point efort.
Magnolia 71, River 53
NEW MARTINSVILLE -- Jake Gamble canned 9 of 15 field goals and went off for a game-high 30 points as Magnolia easily improved to 7-1 following Tuesday's 71-53 win against visiting River.
The Blue Eagles, who play Friday at Frontier, also watched Gamble double-double thanks to 10 boards. Blue Eagle teammate Qwailei Turner also double-doubled with 19 points and 11 boards. Trevor Williamson added 11 markers for the victors.
