WVU Mountaineer football fans in attendance Thursday night were treated to one of the more exciting games played in our venue in recent years. Casey Legg’s field goal with 33 seconds remaining gave West Virginia a dramatic 43-40 much needed win over Baylor. Close games are won by making big plays. While these have been mostly missing from the Mountaineer arsenal in previous outings, WVU made several to secure the win. Through their first five games of the 2022 season the West Virginia Mountaineers are sitting with an overall 2-3 record (0-2 in the Big 12). They rank #77 in yards per play on offense, #83 in yards per play on defense and 115th in pass defense efficiency. Outside of our placekicker, who has been excellent, the rest of the Special teams aren’t very good either. We could go on, but you get the idea. The optimistic mindset of WVU football supporters, buoyed by a convincing win over Virginia Tech, lasted only a meager nine days. Mountaineer fans are sophisticated enough to understand that losing to a more talented Texas team on the road might be expected. But the manner in which it occurred was not.
