It seems that home football games have become an endurance test for WVU football fans. For the second time in three weeks a two-hour weather delay turned a game starting at noon into an early evening conclusion As the storm rolled in early in the fourth quarter the mood of WVU supporters was ...
From a football fan perspective, it doesn’t get much worse than this. The game Saturday at Pittsburgh was against an archrival, a game WVU expected to win, and one in which the Mountaineers had a 10-point lead with less than five minutes remaining and then completely imploded in ...
It’s hard to believe we’re already back to that time of year again — football season. Fellow scribes Jordan Holland, Kerry Patrick and Aaron Lee already have been out to make a few visits to their respective schools for the upcoming Pigskin Previews (Marietta Times, Aug. 22 and Parkersburg News and Sentinel, Aug. 29), but my first official trip will be Saturday when I make the trek to Reedsville to visit with the Eastern Eagles of third-year head coach Jason Jackson. It was good to spend some time Sunday afternoon at Parkersburg South with Braxton Amos on the final day of his wrestling camp. If anyone sees Amos around town and he has a new acquaintance with him, it’s his recently acquired puppy Jack Daniels. “Half lab and half golden retriever,” Amos said of the four-month old pup, who made the trek with him from Wisconsin to Parkersburg. “He’s the best dog ever. He just chills out. It’s like having a kid in the car. He slept the entire way.” Amos said he had planned to get a dog following the Olympics if he qualified, but a ...
A former friend and colleague passed away last week. We worked as part-time sports writers for the local newspaper back in the Midwest in Moline, Ill., and eventually graduated from the same college in the same class. Our dream jobs were to remain on staff and eventually settle into a full-time position. At the same time, nothing was guaranteed as to if and when a position would open for either of us or both of us. Steve had immense talent working in the media – with his background in radio, television and journalism. He decided to remain with the newspaper in a part-time ...
