Op-ed: Change is in the air – Big Blue Wave is on its way
Trending
Fall is my favorite time of the year. College football, a chill in the air. Leaves changing colors. Halloween, deer hunting and, every other year, politicians trying to convince you they deserve your vote. And of course, they rarely do.
This year, for instance, Republicans are panicking because they may lose. The economy is bad. Inflation, gas prices, food prices and housing prices are high. While there are 996 billionaires in the U.S. today (none in WV), 38 million Americans, 11.5%, are considered poor (debt.org/faqs/americans-in-debt).
At the same time, while the USA is THE wealthiest country in the world, the top 1% wealthiest own 30% of the nation's wealth, or $43 trillion. This indicates there is SIGNIFICANT wealth inequality among Americans. Also, mortgage debt burdens many of us (usafacts.org/articles/who-owns-american-wealth/). Finally, in WV, the median income for a family of four is only $56,637, while the national average is $80,734. (statedemographics.com).
The war in Iran is dragging on much longer than Trump said it would, and he's preoccupied with renaming the Kennedy Center and building a massive ballroom no one wants. Trump, they know, is failing America. He's 80 years old and his mental and physical health is failing. His big, beautiful bill is a bust; it cut SNAP and school meals for millions of our children. The national debt right now is a whopping $40 trillion (us-debt-clock.com), more than the U.S. GDP for this year! His lies are growing old and his missteps are growing more frequent. His cabinet of idiots is inept at best and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, RFK, Jr., and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent are proving themselves to be grossly incompetent. Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche is proving to be as corrupt as Pam Bondi was, and the president's level of corruption is staggering to even the most forgiving of his followers.
He's lost control of his MAGA base, and most Americans are ready for a change. MAGAts are either rich, ignorant or stupid, so I ask: Which are you?
With the midterm election only about five weeks away, Republican candidates fear Trump can't help them get reelected like he has in the past. What's worse, Trump and the Republican Party have accomplished absolutely nothing of significance since they were elected nearly two years ago. NOTHING! And still, the Epstein issue lingers like the stench of raw sewage on a hot summer day.
Democrats are preparing for a Big Blue Wave of angry voters to vote them back into power in the House and Senate. It's likely to happen. For the first time in years, Democrats are beating Republicans in traditionally red states. While midterm elections are traditionally bad for the incumbent party, this year could be devastating for Republicans. Courts are ruling against Trump and his excessive power grabs. There have been over 700 lawsuits filed against the Trump administration this year, an astonishing number! So far, state and federal courts have ruled against Trump in many of them. (allaboutlawyer.com/trump-lawsuits) And Trump has been sued personally over 4,000 times in his life. (honorandshamearchive)
The situation looks grim for Republicans, even WV Senator Shelley Moore Capito - one of Trump's staunchest bootlickers -- is at risk of losing her reelection bid to challenger Rachel Fetty Anderson. In national polling projections, Democrats have an 83% chance of winning control of the House and a 55% chance of winning the Senate. (votehub.com/2026-forecast).
