Hello my crochet friends. I am Maurita the Crochet Lady. Summertime is here. Not everyone wants to go to the beach, so I created a project to bring the beach to you.
The pattern set is for a base chain for a head piece and necklace with simple leaves and end button, flowers to put on both, and a cute flowing skirt.
The amount of flowers is up to each maker. … I made one flower per section between leaves. The grass skirt pattern includes two lengths so children and adults can both enjoy these costume pieces.
SUPPLIES: P hook for skirt, I hook for Leis and headpiece base and flowers. Worsted weight yarn (single-strand yarn for Leis and double-strand for grass skirt)
STITCHES: CH= chain, SL ST= slip stitch, SC= single crochet, DC= double crochet, TRC= treble -or- triple crochet. ( …to… ) = either repeat what is in ( … ) or complete those directions into a specific stitch or space.

NOTE: I am sorry… in my video, during the grass skirt directions, I left out the first SC that should be the first stitch on all rows EXCEPT ROW1.
FLOWER: CH6, SL ST to form ring. (SC in ring, CH6) five times, CH6, SL ST into 1st SC. Fasten off and knot and hide tails. My example has only one flower per section, but you can add as many as you want, mix up colors, even change colors per section.
BASE FOR LEIS AND HEADPIECE Note: you will be starting at the button end. BUTTON: CH5, SL ST to form ring, 10SC in ring, join with SL ST in 1stSC. LOOP FOR BUTTON: CH5 to leave space between button and buttonloop, loosely CH3, DC in first loose chain. CHAIN WITH LEAF LOOPS: (CH10, Ch10 for leaf, SL ST in 10th CH from hook) repeat to have 11 leaves for necklace & start with 5 leaves for headpiece (I did not crochet really tight, so it fit my child and myself. If you plan to make a fuller necklace with tons of flowers, I recommend making two leaves (one right after the other) instead of only one, plus they can be made larger by working CH15 or CH20 instead.
ADD FLOWERS: Slide the flowers over the ending leaf and slide to the section that you want them to be on until it is your desired fullness.
GRASS SKIRT: CHILD: ROW1: CH36, TRC in the 8th CH from hook, (CH3, skip 3 stitches, TRC), repeat from ( to ) until end. ROW2: CH1, turn edge of work just enough to work a SC in current 1st stitch, CH35, TRC in 8th CH from hook, (CH3, skip 3 stitches, TRC) five times, CH#, skip 3 stitches, TRC in next chain -and- TRC of previous row, CH3, skip 3CHS, TRC into SC of previous row. REPEAT ROW 2 until desired width. CLOSING TIE OPTIONS: 1– crochet a chain long enough to tie the center of it to one top edge of the skirt to allow the wearer to bow tie the skirt on (can have tie on both sides). 2–join single strand of yarn to the edge top stitch and work the buttonhole from necklace, CH5, work button. ADULT: Only difference between sizes is length of grass, so start with CH48. For ROW2 and beyond, CH47. I recommend making it wider because it can overlap.

USING THE BUTTON: Feed the button though the last necklace leaf then through the buttonhole.
Hope you enjoy my Island projects. Until next time, happy crocheting.
