Kiki’s Corner: A game is more than the final score

Last Saturday we experienced the most surprising football game, Ohio University against West Virginia University. A game that left many of us very disappointed for sure, a score that none of us were expecting to see, but I guess you should never set your mind to something unless you see the final score.

The week started very exciting when we heard Kiki, our granddaughter, was going to cheer that day and then all the family got tickets to go. The weather wasn’t very promising with 60% chance of rain around the time the game was scheduled to start but we still had hopes, we left the house with cloudy skies and few rain drops but we had made our mind that nothing would stop us, we were well prepared with umbrellas, rain coats, blankets and all the necessities to handle the unpredictable weather, but to our huge surprise, as we got closer to Athens we got nothing but a few raindrops and those stopped as soon as we arrived in Athens, Ohio.

Athens was packed with OU and West Virginia University fans with no parking to be found unless you wanted to park and walk 20 to 30 minutes from the stadium. Lucky that our son George has season tickets and the perfect parking spot next to the stadium, perfect comfortable-chairs and elevator to go up …no steps to worry about and next to the bathrooms or lines to wait. Now it was an entirely different story for the rest at the spectators, and that is very understandable when you have to accommodate over 27,000 people. But somehow everyone managed to get in with no problem. The concession stands did an outstanding business, especially from the beer drinkers. Let’s face it games and beer and junk food all go so well together such as popcorn, hot dogs, chips, etc.

George and his OU college friends had a huge tailgate party, with all kinds of foods and desserts and drinks and people came from everywhere to cheer, and they were hoping that their team would win. We had a wonderful time at the tailgate, especially when the sun came out and everybody got more relaxed and happy.

Of course the atmosphere completely changed when the game started and everyone was cheering for their favorite team, you pay all the money to go and see the game and instead of having fun it gets so stressful, especially when your team loses. I was telling everyone it’s only a game and tomorrow will be another day and you will forget all about it. Of course I’m a woman and men don’t think like that and a lot of women as well.lol …many WVU fans didn’t get treated nicely from OU fans. You learn to ignore those people .

I have to say the game was very interesting and kept all of us on stitches the whole time. No way we thought that OU would beat WVU but unfortunately at the end it happened with the score OU 17 and WVU 10. Reality always hurts.

When we watch a football game at home on TV I would like to watch the fourth quarter because that’s when everything happens and especially the last few minutes, and my philosophy is why worry for three hours. Saturday I had no choice but to watch the whole game.

Anyway, the fans on both sides were all fired up, some happy, some upset. I can understand that everybody wants their team to win, that’s very obvious, but unfortunately, somebody has to lose and it’s sad what happens in front of your eyes..

But overall the game was a lot of fun (if you take away the stress Lol) we visited people from all over and people of all ages, cheering and yelling and carrying on. All of our family was there, some to cheer the WVU team (11 family members) and five family members to cheer for the OU team. Well that’s what makes life interesting! And to make everyone happy to my West Virginia University fans and family I cheered LETS GO MOUNTAINEERS! And to my Ohio University fans and family I cheered LETS GO OHIO UNIVERSITY!

PS. Talking about a busy weekend, our two Chick Fil A’s provided food for the whole Ohio University football team, also the West Virginia University football team and believe it or not the whole WVU marching band, seven buses full of Student musicians.

Remarkable.

So happy with the performance of our employees they did an outstanding job plus we had a food truck at the stadium to provide food from Chick-fil-A to all the fans!

BRAVO.
