In the next month downtown Parkersburg will transform into a beautiful holiday scene with festive lights and decorations. Downtown businesses have started prepping for the holiday season and will be ready to offer you that unique experience or gift that can only be found at a specialty business. Events hosted by Downtown PKB and other downtown organizations will be taking place, so there will be no shortage of fun to be had.
Starting it all off will be Small Business Saturday on Saturday, Nov. 25. Small Business Saturday was created by American Express several years ago as a way for consumers as a whole to support small businesses, the backbone of our community. On this day many small businesses in downtown Parkersburg will be offering specials or will be open. This day is a great way to bring attention to small businesses, by putting the focus all on them. Downtown PKB will be listing participating businesses with their specials and hours on our website and in the events on our Facebook page. Go to downtownpkb.com or @downtownpkb to check them out.
Beginning Small Business Saturday through Dec. 19, Downtown PKB will be holding a holiday contest, the Ultimate Downtown PKB Event Package, to encourage people to come downtown and support our small businesses. The package includes two tickets to the Taste of Parkersburg, two tickets to the Downtown Throwdown and two seats to the Summer Concert Series. To enter, participants need to visit any downtown Parkersburg business and make a purchase. No minimum purchase is required. While at the business, they need to take a picture with their receipt and post it on Facebook tagging that business and Downtown PKB. The winner will be announced on Facebook on Wednesday, Dec. 20. All steps must be completed for the entry to be accepted.
On Saturday, Dec. 2, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., we will hold Winterfest, our annual winter celebration. In the past the event started immediately following the Parkersburg parade, but this year it will start an hour later. This is a family-friendly event to get you into the holiday spirit. From 4:30 to 6 p.m. there will be activities for the kids, live entertainment, some downtown museums will be open for tours and a visit with Santa. Then at 6 p.m. the Winterfest ceremony will take place followed by the city tree lighting ceremony and fireworks.
In addition to everything mentioned above, make sure you come downtown to see the beautiful Christmas decorations and colorful Edison lights lining Market Street.
