As we approach the Halloween season there are many precautions we must consider. Sadly, there are a few sick people out there that would like to hurt our innocent children.
Our children look forward to the Halloween holiday and the "trick or treating," getting their favorite Halloween costumes – which sometimes are difficult decisions – and finding friends they want to go with.
The next step is for both the children and adults to know and heed safety instructions. It is up to us parents and grandparents to protect our children so they can have a great and safe evening.
Watch and be very careful of cars. Safety is our most important goal !!!
If you are driving, be extra careful and drive slowly, watching for children in the streets, etc.
Keep in mind that the important thing for your child is to show off their Halloween outfit and to collect lots of candies. (Be sure that the mask they wear does not block or hamper their vision.)
It is also highly recommended that parents accompany their child, even if your child would rather be with just a friend. Better be safe than sorry!!
Times have changed and safety is the number one issue for our children. It is very sad to think how we grew up and what the children have to adjust to nowadays with all the DO's and DONT'S.
Do not let your children eat any of the candies until they get home and you parents have a chance to check out the goodies and spot any suspicious-looking items and candy. It is unbelievable that there would be anyone who would want to harm a little child who is just out for a fun evening and to get treats.
I suggest that you go to homes where you know the people and they are neighbors, friends and relatives, etc. In our development we do not get many trick-or-treaters because there are limited homes and large lots. It's best to go in districts with a lot of homes close together. Our grandchildren would usually make our home their first stop to show off their costumes and get their treats before they had to trick us. LOL
Halloween has really grown in popularity lately and has become the second-largest celebrated holiday, I have been told.
REMINDER
Do not forget the carved and decorated Pumpkin Contest at 3 p.m. Oct. 23 at the Grand Central Mall food court.
Carved real pumpkins may be dropped off at The Watering Can Art Studio next to J.C Penny's at Grand Central Mall Oct. 23. Decorated styrofoam pumpkins may be dropped off at the same place Oct. 17 through Oct. 21.
All pumpkins will be displayed from Oct. 23 through Oct. 28 in order for the public to vote for their Peoples' Choice favorites.
Winners will be announced live on the Watering Can Art Studio Facebook page.
