As Veterans Day approaches, I want to take a moment to honor the brave men and women who have served our country. As a four-year Navy veteran, I understand deeply what it means to answer the call to duty and the profound bonds formed through shared sacrifice.

Veterans Day is more than just a day off work or a parade down Market Street. It is a solemn occasion to recognize the tremendous price paid by those who put on the uniform. Our veterans have left behind families, pursued dreams deferred, and faced dangers most can scarcely imagine -- all for the promise of a safer, freer nation.

But beyond the individual sacrifices, there is something sacred about the camaraderie born from military service. Those who have worn the uniform understand a unique brotherhood and sisterhood forged through common experience. We have stood together in challenging circumstances, relied on one another when it mattered most, and formed bonds that transcend time and distance.

This fellowship is one of the greatest gifts service provides.

As we observe Veterans Day, I encourage our community to truly reflect on what our veterans have given. I truly appreciate it when others say thank you for your service. We must commit to supporting our veterans and their families, ensuring we receive the healthcare, benefits, and respect we deserve. We must listen to their stories and remember their sacrifices.

To my fellow veterans in Parkersburg and across the nation, thank you for your service! Your service is recognized and your service matters. And to our community: Let us make sure that the spirit of Veterans Day extends far beyond Nov. 11. Special thanks to my girl Leecee and our dog Buddy! Most of all, I would like to thank and give all the glory to God! Happy Veterans Day!

P.S. This one is for Marina B. Go Navy!
