Our forefathers led a revolution based on the rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. I believe this ensures every person's right to live up to their potential. Disabled people have a choice to live in the community. Medical treatment is required, even if a person cannot afford it. Government has the responsibility to provide the services required by law.

As an advocate for the disabled community, I am concerned that government services that the disabled rely on may be taken away. The Olmstead Act, that provides the choice of community living, rather than institutionalization, is being attacked in the courts. Without congressional action, it could be lost. Medicaid requirements are becoming more stringent, and funding is being reduced. The government is reneging on its responsibility.

This struck home to me last week when I went to get a COVID-19 booster. The CVS pharmacy could not give it to me because the Medicare Part B website was down. They could not charge my insurance, so they would not give me the vaccination. I had to make a second trip on another day to get what I expected to be a routine vaccination. Only then did I realize that I had been Doged, Kennedyed, and Trumped.

Voting is the American way to make changes without a revolution. Verify your registration. The registration deadline is Oct. 13 in West Virginia, and early in-person voting starts on Oct. 21. Vote. Only votes actually cast are valid and counted.
