The sad news of Dolly Parton passing away this week brought a universal outpouring of love and admiration for her incredibly impactful life. Well, almost universal.

Our state senator, Mike Azinger, took the opportunity to post negative things about her on social media. In her music, her decades of humanitarian work, and even her interviews and public appearances, she had a simple but powerful message: Treat others with kindness, dignity, respect, and empathy, no matter their background or circumstances, and no matter how they had treated you in return.

I imagine that is why Senator Azinger took to social media to attempt to smear her after her death, because his political career has been in complete opposition to those values. We all have the choice in life to embody Dolly's values or to embody Senator Azinger's. And, importantly, we all have the choice in the upcoming election as to whether we want Senator Azinger and his values to represent us in the legislature.

Dolly once said "if you don't like the road you're walking, start paving another one." Wood County, let's pave another one this November.
