Letter to the Editor: God and guns

In my previous letter in the Sunday, Aug. 23, newspaper, I opined teaching about God and right and wrong, to our children, in our schools, at an early age might help stem the tide of gun violence in America.
From the birth of America, until the 1970s, children were taught about God in our schools and teachers read passages from the Bible. In the 1970s, atheists declared this was in violation of an imaginary separation of church and state. Thus, our teachers were no longer allowed to even mention God and morality in our schools.
In those "good old days," when students had a dispute, they may have stepped behind the gym and settled things, in a fist fight. Usually the worst any student experienced was a black eye and some hurt pride, beginning in the 1980s, many students began taking a gun to school and shooting the student(s) with whom they had the dispute, along with innocent uninvolved students and teachers.
Students learning about God and morality at an early age will likely grow up as moral adults.
Another idea to prevent murders is to scour the internet for posted violent threats. After many shootings, investigators later found the shooter had previously posted vile rhetoric on the "net." Thus, Congress should appropriate funding for the FBI for hiring additional cyber agents for scanning the internet and rooting out these violent postings to prevent future murders.
To today's Socialist Democrats, the only solution to stem gun violence is outlawing private ownership of firearms. This has been proven to make citizens "sitting ducks" for armed criminals.
Most gun crimes occur in "blue" states and cities. It's obvious armed criminals do not want to encounter armed resistance while committing a crime. In "blue" states and cities, criminals' chances of encountering armed resistance is substantially reduced, because their citizens are likely unarmed, by strict "blue" state gun laws.
In "red" states where constitutional and concealed carry is legal, armed perpetrators know the "tables may be turned on them by an armed citizen." "Blue" state gun control laws should be called what they are, "criminal protection laws."
There are several steps which can be taken to reduce American gun violence, but ending or restricting the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding citizens is not one of them, because armed law-abiing citizens are not the problem.
