Letter to the Editor: Program powerful for inmates

I would like to thank the Washington County Sheriff’s Department for their IGNITE (Inmate Growth Naturally and Intentionally Through Education) program. I was a Kairos volunteer at Lakin Women’s Prison for about 10 years, and I learned most of the women there were not “bad” people, they just made bad choices. Thank you for this wonderful program as it uses peers as volunteers. That is powerful as the current inmates see what is possible. There is light at the end of the tunnel. Thank you officer and director Timberman and assistant director, officer McCray for this blessed program.
