Letter to the Editor: Awareness and purpose

As the weather begins to warm and the world slowly comes back to life, I find myself reflecting on something deeper than the change of seasons. Spring doesn’t just happen around us–it invites us to notice. To pause. To pay attention.

My husband and I recently spent time camping at The Wilds, and while we didn’t see much wildlife during our stay, something more meaningful happened. We slowed down enough to truly experience what was around us. Walking the trails, feeling the air, listening to the quiet rhythm of nature — it became clear just how much life is constantly unfolding, whether we choose to see it or not.

There is a quiet power in paying attention. In stopping long enough to feel connected to the life around you. Even in something as simple as acknowledging it — speaking to it, appreciating it, recognizing that we are not separate from it. In many ways, we are shaping it with our presence, our awareness, and the energy we bring into each moment.

That experience brought me back to something I’ve been thinking about often: the posture of the heart. Not in a physical sense, but as a reflection of our intentions — what we carry within us as we move through the world. Are we approaching life with gratitude, openness, and compassion? Or are we too distracted, too rushed, to even notice the impact we’re having?

We talk often about time as something limited — and it is. But perhaps the greater loss is not time itself, but the moments we move through without awareness. The conversations we never have with the world around us. The beauty we overlook. The opportunities we miss to shape our lives, and the lives around us, with intention and care.

There’s a way of living that feels almost like a wonderland–not because everything is perfect, but because we are present enough to appreciate it. A state of being where gratitude becomes natural, where contentment grows, and where even ordinary moments feel meaningful. Some might call that “heaven on earth,” but perhaps it’s something we create through the posture of our hearts and the awareness we choose to carry.

As this season unfolds, I encourage others to pause. Pay attention. Consider not just what you’re doing, but the intention behind it. Because when you begin to live with awareness and purpose, you may find that life itself begins to respond in kind.
