Letter to the Editor: Illegals unwelcome

As I was driving today in Marietta, I noticed a group of people standing along the road on Pike Street holding placards. Most said things about ICE, support the constitution, free us from Trump, etc. I did not honk in support. I did notice the signs were professionally printed. Wonder who paid for them?

While Trump is far from perfect, I honestly believe he loves America and is able to do things the Democrats would not and are scared to attempt. There are many things wrong with America and it will not get better.

ICE is after illegal immigrants. FOX News reported on the incredible number of aliens detained with long criminal records. Do we really need them?

People who are in this country illegally should be looking over their shoulders. They are not wanted and need to go back to where they came from.

The Constitution does not guarantee illegals any rights at all. Rights are for citizens. Those who think the poem at the base of the Statue of Liberty is part of the constitution are misinformed.

It was written by Emma Lazarus in 1903, and says, in part, “Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, The wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!”

Emma was an activist and somewhat of a poet. She was asked to write a poem to be placed at the base of the statue.

What she meant was that “homeless” of other countries, those wanting to be free and live life, are the types of people America has always attracted. Those who want to contribute to America and be honest, hard-working citizens. Not those who come across the border illegally. Those who come lawfully are welcome. Those who do not are not.

We do not mind the tired, the poor, the huddled masses wanting freedom from oppression at home. We will take them. But it is the convicted criminals from elsewhere, the “wretched refuse” who are not welcome. Pay attention to just how many crimes are being committed by criminal illegal aliens.

We need to protect America. A country without secure borders is not a country at all. Things must change and now.
