Letter to the Editor: Build something to bring people to Parkersburg

Elected officials, including our inhumane President, take an oath to support “The Constitution,” and vow to carry out their duties to, “We The People of the United States in order to form a more perfect Union …”

Unfortunately Wood County’s and Parkersburg’s dogmatic officials do not understand this as seen by their lack of vision and inability to form a consensus designed to improve the economic foundation of the area.

If serious about building a better Parkersburg and creating a popular revenue-producing destination, why not fund multiple projects focused on improving and maintaining a high quality of life for all in the MOV, starting by reinstating superlative curbside trash and recycling collection along with improved infrastructures and building unique area attractions?

(The wage for hard working trash collectors should not be less than the pay given Wood County Commissioners.)

A huge venue for the sparsely attended Harvest Moon and Honey Festivals plus the occasional carnival may line a few rich pockets but, like the misplaced “Silly” Center, aka, “Resiliency,” the Park’s “Pavilion,” just another dubious ill-conceived waste of precious public funds.

Given the huge amount of money, it is possible to complete the trails to the mall and North Bend State Park.

A once-mentioned all-weather aerial tramway from the Point to Fort Boreman, with a stop at Kokomos for a “Taste of Parkersburg,” can be made.

Note: Income could even be generated with a small fee similar to the People Mover in Morgantown.

Traffic roundabouts at congested intersections built along with establishing convenient intercity bus service. It is, “common sense” and a no-brainer!

Unlike spineless rubber stamping U.S. Senators in Washington, our elected local leaders should actually honor their Sacred Promise to serve All the People in, “The land of the Free and Home of the Brave!”
