Letter to the Editor: Cat-feeding ban is cruel

Several months ago you had an article in the Parkersburg newspaper about prohibiting the feeding of abandoned and homeless animals. This upset me.
Many feral animals have been abandoned by their owners, just dropped off somewhere to try to survive on their own.
What is a person to do if they want to feed the poor hungry animals? I have an elderly friend who feeds eleven feral cats. The cats are so happy when they see her coming. She loves these cats and they love her. It’s cruel not to feed them.
Here’s a suggestion … catch each feral animal and get them spayed or neutered so they can’t multiply. That would solve the problem. Most of the feral animals have been abandoned by their owners.
I am 88 years of age. I love all animals and can’t stand to see animals starve. Recently I made a donation to the Wood County humane society. The fee to adopt an animal is over $100! When an animal is adopted from the shelter it should be spayed or neutered, vaccinated and have a chip inserted. If someone abandons one of the adopted pets, the owner could be found. Justice would be served by paying a fine or even jail time.
Once council woman says she loves cats. Her concern is about the safety in unsanitary areas. Did she forget about other animals pooping everywhere? Geese, deer and all kinds of birds and especially the pigeons, etc. Good luck to the kitty program and to the decision-makers of our city. My prayers are with you all.
