Letter to the Editor: On the Democratic agenda

Democratic strategist James Carville, in TV news interviews, revealed an agenda list for the Democrats whenever they retake the White House and both houses of Congress to consolidate themselves as the dominant political party in America.

On the agenda list is packing the Supreme Court with four more liberal justices, increasing the number of justices to 13, eliminating the Electoral College, thus electing presidents by popular vote and granting Puerto Rico and Washington, D.C., statehood, which would guarantee Democrats four more Senate seats and two more House seats.

Packing the Supreme Court and granting D.C. statehood would be possible, but unpopular according to polling. However, granting D.C. statehood would be difficult because it would require a constitutional amendment. The U.S. Constitution, Article 1, Section 8, Paragraph 18, in part grants Congress the authority to “exercise exclusive legislation in all cases whatsoever over such district (not exceeding ten miles square), as may by cession of particular states and the acceptance of Congress become the seat of government of the United States.” Thus, granting D.C. statehood without amending the constitution is unconstitutional.

Eliminating the Electoral College would also require a constitutional amendment. The U.S. Constitution, Article 2, Section 1, Paragraph 2 reads, “Each state shall appoint, in such manner as the legislature may direct, a number of electors, equal to the whole number of senators and representatives to which the state may be entitled in congress, but no senator or representative or person holding an office of trust or profit of the United States, shall be appointed an elector.”

Eliminating the Electoral College is unlikely. No more than a dozen “blue” states would ratify either amendment in their state legislature and it’s unlikely any “red” state would ratify either amendment in their state legislatures. Ratifying either amendment would be undermining their representation in Washington.

Our wise founding fathers knew what they were doing when they incorporated the Electoral College concept into our constitution.

President Trump has called for a new census since the 2020 census was skewed because several “blue” states counted illegal immigrants allowing Democrats approximately 15 House seats, which would otherwise have been held by “blue” state Republicans.

A new census is required by law at least every ten years. Whether Trump can get a new honest census before 2030, without illegal immigrants counted may be decided by the Supreme Court.
