Letter to the Editor: State says it is no longer responsible for road

(Letter to the Editor - Photo Illustration - MetroCreativeConnection)

Under the new administration, the state road — Route 6 — that adjoins our property has been determined by the state that it doesn’t belong to them.

There is a bad slide on our end of Route 6.

We have owned this property since 1982 and the state has been responsible for the road until the slide in July 2025. The road was tarred and chipped in 2000 after the city water came through. Now the road is gravel and with the slide, the water company cannot get in with their vehicle to check the meter. If we needed the fire department, they could not get up on the hill to our house because the original and main road is not accessible to them.

We have contacted the governor’s office, two House of Delegates members, state road, deputy sheriff and state police, but they haven’t been able to get the state to realize it is their responsibility to fix the slide.

As a taxpayer, I feel my rights are being jeopardized.
