Letter to the Editor: Restroom debate
(Letter to the Editor - Photo Illustration - MetroCreativeConnection)
Construction of the new City Park activity center has done away with two important restrooms. I have tried to contact the city concerning the need for a temporary restroom near the playground. I was told it was up to the mayor. After the city council meeting May 13, I had the opportunity to approach the mayor with my concern.
His answer, “There are restrooms at the ball field and tennis courts …”
I explained my concerns, stating that is fine but anyone visiting or not familiar with the park would not know this. It would be advisable at least to post a sign directing to the locations. He proceeded to tell me that porta johns would be near there when Music in the Park starts in a month.
I stated the children and visitors are there daily, not just one hour once a week.
He repeated that there would be something in a month!
The last words he said to me were “you don’t like my answer, do you?” My last words to him were “No, I didn’t!”
How hard would it have been to just agree and have a restroom delivered now?
This attitude is much like city council’s elimination of the open public forum. No one wants to listen or maybe just doesn’t care.
