Thank Him, today

I am sure we all have seen the billboards with Dolly Parton saying “Find the good in everybody.” I know what she means by that, but the truth is, there is no good in anybody. The Bible says, “As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:” Romans 3:10 KJV. We are born with a sin nature inherited from Adam. We naturally do wrong rather than right. Sin is defined as anything we say, do or think that is not pleasing to a Holy God. We do it all the time.

But, what is righteous living? Righteousness is defined as acting according to divine or moral law: free from guilt or sin — Merriam-Webster online dictionary. Righteous living is living rightly according to God’s standards, of which we fall woefully short. But, once we accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, we are made righteous in the eyes of God through the death on the cross. God demanded a perfect sacrifice for our sins. We owed a sin debt but could not pay because of our imperfection. Jesus, being perfect in all ways, paid a debt for us that he did not owe. By that act, once we accept Jesus into our lives, we are made perfect and righteous in God’s eyes as he looks at us through the lens of the shed blood of Jesus.

But that does not mean we are perfect and live without sin once we are saved. We still sin. We are not made sinlessly perfect. Sounds nice, but it is not true. To our shame, we still sin even though we are saved through the Grace of our Lord Jesus Christ. But, forgiveness is readily available from God. He stands ready to forgive us from all unrighteousness.

We have a responsibility to tell others about Jesus. We have many opportunities every day if we are paying attention. Just simply mention how Jesus has blessed your life, how he has provided for you over and above what you need. Most of us in America are so blessed and have so much stuff that we rent storage units for items we never need again, never look at again, and pay rent for years and years that far exceed the value of the items in storage.

Thank Jesus today for what you have. Thank him for salvation.
