Christmas wishes

(Letter to the Editor - Photo Illustration - MetroCreativeConnection)

This past week leading up to Christmas we watched a lot of Christmas movies. Some were about the reason we celebrate; the birth of Christ. Some were funny. Most of the movies I watched this year had to do with the magic of Christmas; sharing, caring, and loving one another. There’s the movie that someone gets to see what the world would be if he had never been born. Of course, his life touched so many others he decides to live no matter the consequences. There is one where a mother who no longer believes in Christmas learns to see how lucky she is to have her family after she thinks she has lost her husband and almost loses her children. There are several with Santa and his good and naughty lists. There are some letting parents know that it’s never too late to give of yourself, even if you weren’t always the perfect parent. When the movies end it makes me want to be with my family, then call everyone I care about who are too far away to hug in person.

Not everyone is as blessed as I am to have family and friends that care so much. We had three days of children both young and old visit with us. On Christmas Eve I started the day receiving phone calls wishing me happy birthday. I even had a surprise visit from friends who brought my supper and a birthday cake. I thought it odd my husband turned on the oven. Found out it was to finish baking the surprise. Some people are just so very thoughtful. I have trouble remembering when birthdays are at all, never mind planning ahead to surprise anyone that way.

I have nothing to complain about in this letter. Sharing my joy for life and my love for family and friends is what I wanted to write to you about. My cup runneth over with love.

If you are someone who believes in prayer, don’t forget the less fortunate. Maybe you make time to volunteer to help others. Perhaps you donate to a food pantry or some other organization to help families through this tough time of year. Maybe you invite someone who is alone to share with you on a cold or lonely day. Remember love is what it’s all about.

Hope you had a merry Christmas and a happy New Year!
