A new thing

(Letter to the Editor - Photo Illustration - MetroCreativeConnection)

This past Sunday at a church service, I witnessed something I have never experienced in my 82 years — a children’s secular Christmas song played at the traditional worship service by a young man. “Frosty the Snow Man!” What an unexpected blessing!

I told the young man I’m sure Jesus loved it! It reminded me of the words of the old prophet, Isaiah, “Behold, God is doing a new thing!”

Evidently church folks don’t like this passage because if we took church bulletins and whited out the preachers and all other names, the date, the announcements, and one or two other things, you wouldn’t know if the bulletin was from 1950 or 2024!

Another welcomed change would be in up-to-date language. With the thee, thou and hallowed, kids today are going to think Jesus spoke old English instead of Aramaic or Greek or whatever.

Good grief, Charlie Brown! (Laugh out loud). Anyhow, thank you, Stout Memorial and the young pianist for not being afraid to do a new and wonderful thing!
