Letter to the Editor: Planned Parenthood more than abortion

The 2023 annual report of Planned Parenthood reveals that out of more than two million patients served and more than nine million services they performed, abortions amounted to 392,715 for the year. I calculate that is less than 4.5% of the services rendered. Factcheck.Org reports that, by law, federal funding cannot be used for abortions. This information is available from reputable sources online but the word of God is silent, not only on the issue of abortion but on the services of Planned Parenthood. Letters to this paper that claim on religious authority that abortion is Planned Parenthood's primary function are just gratuitous attacks on secular society and on the separation of church and state.

Mothers know that their unborn babies are alive. The maternal instinct is part of a larger survival instinct. But that knowledge changes when the mother learns she has an ectopic pregnancy, for example.

And rather than let the dialogue on this issue devolve into a dispute over who loves Jesus more let me immediately concede defeat. Jesus told his disciples, "If anyone desires to be first, he shall be last of all and servant of all." (Mark 9:35).
