Letter to the Editor: The Vote
Trending
Who will you vote for?
They ask everyday;
Bombarding you with ads,
And lies they will say.
Should I even vote, if I'm filled with ambivalence?
Or am I just plagued
With a sense of indifference?
But then I remember,
The history of my sisters;
Their sacrifice and courage,
An army of resistors.
Fed up and determined,
They endured jail and beatings;
"The Night of Terror,"
left tortured and bleeding.
They had no voice,
Or rights of their own;
Property of their husbands,
And confined to their homes.
But a new day was dawning,
And they'd had enough;
Fighting for decades,
No matter how tough.
So I'll honor their legacies
By not taking for granted,
The seeds of equality
They fought to get planted.
And even if it's not perfect, I'll vote every time;
Remembering my sisters who put their lives on the line.
