Coming soon! A new school ... at least that is what it looks like. The proposed pavilion replacement in our city park has no charm, character or uniqueness in line with the aesthetics of our park and surrounding homes. It looks a lot like Hamilton or Jackson middle schools and the building that is left at McKinley school.
What would the pavilion look like if it was similar in style to what is there now? When the fountain "Lady of the Lake" at the entrance was replaced, it was an exact replica. The classic band shell was repaired with little change.
Let's not forget the out-of-place modern fountain that was installed in the middle of the pond. It was years before the ugly "tooth" was extracted.
The architect could use their idea for all the new schools scheduled to be built, but the pavilion should not look like a school or nondescript office building dropped in as the centerpiece of our historic park.
The administration needs to embrace the park's history and a 100-year-old building using the original style in the new construction. This would keep in line with the spirit of our park and neighborhood.
