Letter to the Editor: Time for the change

Last summer as we enjoyed the music series at City Park presented by Artsbridge, we couldn't help but notice the dilapidated condition of the Band Shell. We were pleasantly surprised this week when we saw workmen were painting the roof. Further inquiry revealed that the entire structure was to receive much needed T-L-C. Though the Band Shell isn't a major structure, for many of us it is iconic and has provided fond memories of City Park.
We were also pleased to read in the Sunday News last week that another rendering of the proposed activities center for City Park has been offered. In our opinion, the original concept was unappealing and would have required too much management. We welcome the proposal of a smaller and much more attractive building.
It is unfortunate, but the lack of maintenance over many years has taken its toll on our City Park pavilion. Perhaps it's time to let another generation of Parkersburgers have their own memories of City Park.
Thank you.
