In a recent column in the News, it was mentioned what Jim Justice recently said. While Jim Justice is not the most elegant speaker and grammarian, he certainly did not mean what was attributed to him. He was not being misogynistic. Misogyny, Merriam-Websters online dictionary, may be distinguished from the closely related word sexism, which signifies discrimination based on sex (although it most frequently refers to discrimination against women). He, being a girls' basketball coach, was referring to the lunacy in sports today, where a boy ... "identifies" as a girl and wants to play on the girls' team. He did not mean that girls are incapable, need to be protected, are inadequate and so on. He was meaning that girls would be at a disadvantage PHYSICALLY, as there are distinct differences between boys and girls. Caitlyn Clark, as good as she is, does not have the physical skills to play in the NBA. Yes, she is a tremendous shooter and scorer, but the size of the NBA players, their physical weight, and the tenacity with which they play would overwhelm her. It is the difference between the sexes.
Boys wanting to play on a girls' team have a problem. ... That is what Jim Justice said and we all know that. To delve into a discussion of the woes of women and girls trying to be successful in today's world is not what he was talking about. To misconstrue what he said is not good journalism.
I have absolutely no problem with women, being equally qualified, being able to apply and be accepted in whatever position they are interested in. However, just because they are a woman/girl does not mean they should be given whatever position they want because women have been under-represented in the past.
There is a God-given difference in the sexes. To ignore that is to ignore what is normal and natural.
