Letter to the Editor: Do better on community roads

First off, I'd like to commend the workers on Rt. 2 during the expansion. They have done well to keep traffic and typical disruptions to a minimum in my opinion and that is appreciated.

The main reason I'm writing is for the roadway off of Rt. 2, Meadowview Drive. I have lived in Woodland Hills about a 1/4 mile or so up Meadowview for about 8 years. In that time there has only ever been "patch" jobs to "repair" the road, which is simply throwing cold patch asphalt down and calling it good. This only leaves the already poor condition of the road in even worse shape.

The only plus side is you have some grip when it snows since a plow doesn't come down the road because if it did the plow would be ripped off. In the past 3 years there have been roads paved then in the same year repaved, but Meadowview can't get more attention than cold patch done poorly.

Our taxes go up every year for roads that we drive on and for repairs for the roads that we are also taxed to drive on period, and roads that have family communities can't even get the proper repairs they deserve.

You would think that doing it right just once would save money in the long run. Yet we "need" a multi-million-dollar expansion of Rt. 2 for some reason instead of caring for a neighborhood. The entire road has been so badly neglected that there have been cases when delivery drivers have received flat tires just from encountering the slabs that are sticking up in the road.

This state has always taken pride in working hard and doing the right things and yet our roads are poor examples of both.
