Letter to the Editor: Mooney not doing job for West Virginia
Trending
Representative Mooney sends me another flier saying how much he is working for me as a West Virginian and our values. Then he wants to hear from me.
Well, since he has been my representative, I have sent emails and made several phone calls. Not once has he responded to any. In his flier he says he wants to hear my thoughts.
Well, Representative Mooney, here are my thoughts and values. I am:
* Pro choice. It is the choice of the woman and a doctor not a legislator. The same goes for a transgender teenager.
* Pro union, pro worker rights, which includes a living wage
* Pro educator, which means funding our public schools
* Pro West Virginia citizens -- all citizens regardless of age, skin color, sexual orientation, religious affiliation or place of birth.
* Protect voting rights
* Affordable housing
* Clean air and water
* Work to clean up the prisons and jails
* Child care -- companies should be providing assistance for their workers. Hire more social workers to protect children.
He wanted to know how I rated the government's performance on
* 2nd Amendment -- very poor. Need to ban AR-15s, etc.
* Border Security -- very poor.
* Inflation -- fair. The prices are controlled by the big corporations who are making outlandish profits. I think they call that greed.
* Spending -- fair. Need to send more money to Ukraine and hire more people to work with immigrants.
* Taxation -- very poor. Need to raise taxes on wealthy and hire more people to audit and collect taxes.
* Veterans's services -- fair.
When I called his office about how he would vote on the bill sent by the Senate on aid for Ukraine and the border, the person answering the phone had no idea. Does he not share with his staff?
I think he voted to cut the taxes for the wealthy, which helped to increase our deficit. He opposed hiring more people to work in the IRS to help collect more taxes. He claims he wants to invest in American jobs but does not say anything about the number of jobs that have been created under the Biden Administration. Much money is coming into the state of West Virginia because of the work of President Biden and the House and Senate working with him. I think this was done without any assistance from Representative Mooney.
He opposes new taxes on coal but is doing nothing to help save the planet for his kids and grandkids. He is not helping my fellow citizens in West Virginia to get solar power in their homes, nor to build powering stations for electric vehicles. When my niece and nephew drove here from Columbus, Ohio, the closest charging station was 14 miles away and the next one was over fifty miles.
As I was thinking about this, I recall how some people used to mock people on welfare. I believe that some people in the United States House of Representatives are Welfare Kings and Queens because they are getting money collected from our taxes and are not doing their jobs of working for us. Sadly, some of those people are taking their orders from one man in Florida. Mr. Mooney lives in West Virginia and should be working for us.
