Letter to the Editor: Stop letting non-citizens vote in U.S. elections

With the recent addition of Pennsylvania, there are currently 11 states that allow automatic voter registration at their state department of motor vehicles with the purchase of an auto license or a renewal, including for immigrants in the U.S. illegally.

The 15th amendment to the U.S. Constitution reads in paragraph 1 "The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or any state on account of race, color or previous condition of servitude."

Paragraph 2 reads "The Congress shall have power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation."

Notice in paragraph 1 of the wording "The right of citizens of the Untied States to vote." It doesn't mention any right of non-citizens in the United States to vote. Thus, the 11 states registering non-citizens to vote are acting unconstitutionally and should be overturned in the courts and especially in the U.S. Supreme Court, should they hear the case. To allow non-citizens to legally vote in the U.S. would require a constitutional amendment. Does anyone believe our founding fathers intended non-citizens to have a say in running our government?

However, the chief justice of the Supreme Court, John Roberts, has previously stated that states passing voter ID and signature verification laws are acting within the Constitution and may enact common sense laws to inhibit election fraud and keep ineligible voters from casting ballots disenfranchising legally cast votes.

Paragraph 2 of the 15th amendment grants Congress the authority to enforce paragraph 1 of the same. Congress should therefore pass "appropriate legislation" to keep non-citizens from voting with signature verification, voter ID laws and laws requiring poll watchers from both major parties to be immediately present whenever any ballots are being tallied, with no exceptions. Such laws should be ruled constitutional by the Supreme Court, at least in federal elections. The Democratic Party opposes these laws for obvious reasons.

The Biden administration treats non-citizen, illegal immigrants better than American citizens, providing them with free housing, food and even free cell phones. These illegal immigrants should be immediately deported to their country of origin instead of being rewarded for breaking U.S. immigration laws.

So how about helping homeless and disabled veterans, who served their country? How about helping senior citizens living on Social Security, struggling to pay their bills?
