Letter to the Editor: Ready for round two?

Have you heard that COVID may be on the rise again and there is a possibility that we might have to quarantine again? I certainly hope not for many reasons. As an example recently I've been asked to watch my grandchildren while their mom and dad were busy at the same time. They think they are asking a favor of me but they are really playing into my hands, allowing me the privilege to share time with the kids. If COVID comes back strong their mom and dad wouldn't need me. That would be sad for me and the kids.
Another thing I would have to skip would be what I did one day last week. I had 8 lady friends for lunch at my house. No one knew all the others so everyone got to meet someone new. I decorated, planned a variety of food I thought they would enjoy, shopped, cooked, and everything until last minute when I thought I was running late. I enlisted the help of the early birds to finish up. Finally everything was ready and everyone had arrived except seat number 10 had to be removed. She couldn't make it. My husband took a photo of all of us and returned to his hide-out while we laughed and talked. I asked each lady to introduce themselves and tell how they knew me or met me.
Starting with my daughter each spoke. We laughed how one had met me by "picking me up" at the local craft store. By the time we got half way around the table they started adding what they thought of me, what I meant to them, and how I had helped them. After three of those introductions, I started getting teary-eyed so my daughter said something to lighten up the mood. Everyone had plenty to eat, took part in the conversation, and met new friends that day. I was asked by someone who came for the first time how often I did that sort of thing. I told her whenever I felt like it. I think she is hoping for another invitation, don't you? She will as long as COVID keeps quiet and lets us be with others.
When my Mom was still with us I had lunch for her, our friend Norine, and their friends every few months. They enjoyed the seasonal decorations, the food, and being pampered by me. I miss them a great deal but glad my Mom passed just before COVID hit. Friend Norine was here for the beginning of it. It was all confusing. As with most of us, I had never lived through anything like that.
I hope the predictions are wrong so we never have to live hiding from each other again. I don't want a round two against COVID. I admit it, once in a while it is nice to have a little time for myself, plus God needs his share of alone time with me. But I say, "COVID go away and stay away" because we need each other. I encourage you to share your love and friendship. I think you'll find it a rewarding philosophy.
Now if COVID would just disappear.
