Letter to the Editor: Confusing definitions

Abortion and Healthcare. Two different words, but some would have us believe that one equals the other. Let's see what the Merriam-Webster online dictionary says.

Abortion: the termination of a pregnancy after, accompanied by, resulting in, or closely followed by the death of the embryo or fetus.

Healthcare: efforts made to maintain or restore physical, mental, or emotional well-being especially by trained and licensed professionals.

Now, I am not a medical doctor nor claim to be one. But, just a cursory examination of these definitions cannot lead me to believe that abortion is healthcare.

Abortions, the type of which is common in society today, are thought about, planned, scheduled and completed deliberately. It is not accidental, and the goal to stop the pregnancy is achieved very easily.

Healthcare is a process to maintain, restore physical, mental, or emotional well-being by trained professionals. That does not sound like abortion to me.

Abortions on a daily basis are deliberate procedures, premeditated in nature, that are designed to stop the pregnancy of a woman. The lady, for various reasons, desires to not carry the child to term, and goes about the specific procedures and plans to accomplish her goal.

So, how is it that there is this great confusion about what words really mean? The world, being sinful in nature, will come up with any reason, truthful or not, to accomplish its goal of ending a human life. It is an inconvenience, it will ruin my career, I am not married, or we cannot afford another child. There are a myriad of reasons the sinful human mind can invent to justify wrong actions.

But, God says it is wrong. Yes, you have to believe in God to believe that. He exists no matter what we believe about him. He is infinite, eternal, omniscient, and hates sin. He has always hated sin and the payment for sin is death. However, he has made a way for us to pay. Jesus Christ paid for our sins on the cross; he paid a debt we could not pay and he did not owe.

"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." John 3:16 KJV. This familiar verse still says it all.

Accept him today and learn the truth about love and life.
