Letter to the Editor: God brought me through

(Letter to the Editor - Graphic Illustration/MetroCreativeConnection)

I am recovering from open heart surgery, which I had on March 13 at Camden Clark Medical Center. I had five bypasses through the grace of God, and by Dr. Geoffrey Cousins, local Christian heart surgeon.

I had no symptoms other than an occasional sensation and did not have a heart attack. A cardiac cath was performed by Dr. Goddard, local cardiologist, and he determined I had several blockages. God spared me from a heart attack.

I spent some time in Camden Clark and then went home, only to return through the emergency department about eight hours after I got home. Needless to say, that was not a fun experience.

When I returned through the emergency department they were able to determine what the problem was and why I could not keep any medicine down during the short eight hours I was home. After about four days in the hospital, I was able to return home again, where I am recovering at this time.

The nurses and PCTs on CCMC 3 North are an exceptional group. They never complained even when I required help going to and from the restroom. This whole experience has re-taught me several things: Trust in God for strength as I have none of my own; and be patient and appreciate the small things in life. When I went back in, I was unable to drink much and could only eat some ice chips. After about 30 hours, and the N/G tube put into my stomach to remove some disgusting looking stuff was removed, I was able to resume a clear diet.

The next morning for breakfast I had chicken broth. It was the most delicious food I have had in my life! Then for lunch some mashed potatoes with chicken broth mixed in. What a treat! It really tasted so good. I got to go home on the 22nd and had tears in my eyes as we pulled into the garage.

God alone has brought me through this and continues to help every day. My dear wife Brenda has been a God-send as I am nothing without her and she cares for me 24/7. God has blessed me with her.

If you do not know Jesus as your personal savior, I encourage you to turn to him today, before it is too late. Today is the day of salvation. Don’t delay!
