Letter to the Editor: Man cannot control climate

(Letter to the Editor - Graphic Illustration/MetroCreativeConnection)

I recently read a letter that says if we rely on God to control the climate, then we also should rely on Him to protect our children and a host of other things. The writer gets confused about free will of man with things that MAN cannot control. Man can control his behaviors, and some do, but many do not. We are born with a sin nature. We naturally sin rather than do right.

Man cannot control climate and weather events. That is God’s purview. Climate Change is not human behavior. With all of the concern about carbon dioxide, have trees stopped consuming carbon dioxide to grow and give out oxygen? Is man not putting out carbon dioxide, which in turn is what trees and vegetation need to grow? What a beautiful balance that only God could have designed.

God gives us permissive will; we can do things that we know are wrong, but we still use “free will” to do them. People kill people. Guns do not. Guns are the instrument of destruction that some people use to kill others. Some use knives, fists, hammers, feet, etc. Must we cut off the hands of all to control those that might use them for evil? Drunk drivers kill over 40,000 people each year. Must all cars be fitted with some kind of breathalyzer to stop it from starting if you have consumed alcohol? Or eliminate cars all together and bring lawsuits against Ford Motor (Henry Ford) for inventing cars that some have used for evil purposes?

God does not force his desired behavior on us. We make a choice. That is free will. He sent his son, Jesus Christ, to die on the cross for our sins. He does not force us to accept him as our savior. Do you really want God to control us through mind control or whatever to put less carbon in the air, to use less electricity or coal or natural gas? We have a choice in those things. I am talking about God controlling those natural events that man, in his infinite stupidity and arrogance, thinks he can control. There are studies out that say climate change has gotten better in the last few years, but of course anything positive about the climate is ignored.

Salvation is the gift of God. It is our choice. Choose Jesus today.
