Letter to the Editor: Gun laws must change

(Letter to the Editor - Graphic Illustration/MetroCreativeConnection)

The Colorado Springs Police Chief noted, with some satisfaction, that after receiving the 911 call about a shooting at the Club Q in Colorado Springs that his officers were on the scene in three minutes and the perpetrator was in custody in five minutes.

Still five people were killed and 25 injured, 19 of them by gunfire from an AR15-style weapon of war. If it hadn’t have been for patrons in the club tackling the gunman many more would’ve died.

Even rapid response by police won’t stop the slaughter of innocent people who are killed by weapons of war in seconds. The only way to prevent these mass slaughters is to outlaw the sale of these weapons of war, no one should be allowed to legally purchase nor possess them.

Republicans will not agree to sensible gun laws and if Republican extremists continue to control the party they will cause it’s demise. We must continue to elect Democratic representatives to Congress and the Presidency to change the gun laws and stop this madness!
