Letter to the Editor: Get your facts straight

Steve Wolverton’s letter to the editor (of Nov. 26, 2022) notes the following:
“McConnell’s wife, Elaine Chao, is the daughter of a wealthy Chinese shipbuilding magnate, with ties to the communist Chinese government. Maybe McConnell’s funding actions were because he is compromised by the Chinese government, who are pulling his strings.”
Elaine Chao’s family shipping business was founded in America and does not do shipbuilding, nor does it have “ties to the communist Chinese government.” Furthermore, Ms. Chao does not have any role in the business. The author’s statement is factually inaccurate and is misinforming readers, and should be corrected, as appropriate.
