Letter to the Editor: Broaden your sourcing
(Letter to the Editor - Graphic Illustration/MetroCreativeConnection)
I am writing in response to the op-ed by Jim Mullen titled “The Democrat Party’s war on America and the Constitution.”
It truly is only an opinion piece. The writer’s arguments are biased and have no foundation. If one of my students gave me a paper such as this I would return it with a note, “Please rewrite with support for your arguments using facts from different sources.”
Tell us how Democrats are waging war on the Constitution. Tell us how Democrats are waging war on America. Please use information from sources that aren’t providing a single narrow view. Fox and Newsmax will help your arguments because we tend to choose from sources that agree with us. Confirmation bias is a habit we often develop because it helps us feel good about our thoughts and feelings on topics. We think we are right because we have confirming information.
By reading and listening to different sources we can get a larger world view. Such as, did you know that inflation is a global problem and does not affect only Americans? Gasoline prices are quite high in Europe, too.
Remember, don’t believe everything you think.
