Letter to the Editor: UNSAT still a danger

(Letter to the Editor - Graphic Illustration/MetroCreativeConnection)

I’ve written about the U.N. Small Arms Treaty (UNSAT) previously, but there are some important recent developments. One of the anti-gun bureaucrats who helped craft the UNSAT and is currently working for a liberal think tank called the Stimson Center, Rachel Stohl, published an op-ed demanding President Biden impose the UNSAT by executive order.

In her article, Stohl argued anti-gunners don’t need to secure the 67 Senate votes required by the U.S. Constitution for treaty ratification because, “President Biden need only send a letter to the U.N. stating that (the U.S.) will fulfill its responsibilities as a signatory and be bound by the object and purpose of the treaty.”

The U.N. is holding two meetings this summer including:

* “The program of action to eradicate small arms,” where bureaucrats are working to mandate serialization of every round solo and

* “The Small Arms Treaty,” 8th conference of state parties, where treaty implementation and universalization will be the main focus.

Last fall, President Biden announced his support for “arms control measures” before the U.N. and the government is now handing anti-gun bureaucrats the most money ever, advancing the UNSAT.

Americans have learned the BATF appears to be using gun owners’ background checks to create an illegal gun registry. This may be Biden’s first step in forcing compliance with the UNSAT. Fifty-two Republican lawmakers have signed a letter demanding answers from the BATF, but have had silence in response.

Even if Biden’s scheme to implement the UNSAT by executive order is undone by the courts, it would be extremely damaging because manufacturers and ammunition suppliers would start conforming to the UNSAT demands, believing they have no choice.

Everyone should contact their representative and insist they defund the treaty; by using the power of the purse Congress can stop U.S. tax dollars from funding any part of the UNSAT.

With enough pressure, perhaps Biden will decide against pushing the UNSAT by executive order.

Anyone who believes the UNSAT is not a “clear and present danger” to our second amendment (and our nation’s sovereignty) should first read the treaty before believing so. The UNSAT was written, in part, by rabid anti-gunners Hillary Clinton and John Kerry. This speaks volumes about what’s in the UNSAT.
